In Fon, a language spoken in Benin, NaN means women of the king. This title was reserved for queens and influential women of the royal court of Abomey — discreet yet powerful figures who held essential positions of authority. The NaN earrings pay tribute to this grounded feminine presence, to that kind of strength that doesn’t need to shout, but carries deep dignity.

Part of the ReNée Collection, NaN reflects the collection’s ethos: conscious material transformation, heritage preservation, and meaningful design. Each pair is crafted in limited quantities, following a small-scale, human-centred, artisanal approach.

A clean, symbolic silhouette

The NaN model features a precise square base, a symbol of structure and stability, topped with a small rounded form that evokes either a stylized head or a point of balance. This refined geometry gives the piece a totem-like presence — upright, composed, and quietly strong.

At the centre of the square, a small window reveals a vibrant piece of wax fabric. The textile is sourced from reclaimed offcuts from previous accessory-making. Because of this, each batch of NaN earrings may feature slight variations in wax patterns or colours — maintaining a consistent visual identity, but making each pair subtly unique.

The contrast between the deep red leather and the colourful wax creates a bold, graphic aesthetic — expressive and story-rich, yet understated.

Handcrafted, sustainable, and locally made

Every pair of NaN earrings is handmade in our Montréal studio, using recycled leather and reclaimed wax fabric. This low-waste process ensures that every material fragment is honoured, turning what might be discarded into something meaningful and beautiful.

The earrings are mounted on hypoallergenic stainless steel posts, ideal for sensitive ears. The leather is both soft and lightweight, making the earrings comfortable enough for all-day wear, without compromising style.
