In Fon, a language spoken in Benin, “Ahosi” means women of the king. It was the title given to the legendary Amazons of the Dahomey Kingdom — a regiment of women warriors known for their strength, strategy, and unwavering courage. The Ahosi earrings are inspired by these powerful figures, designed as a contemporary talisman to carry and express one’s inner strength with pride.
In this blue edition, the Ahosi model brings out a calm yet confident energy. Made from recycled deep blue leather, each pair is crafted by hand and produced in limited quantities. At the centre, a vibrant insert of African wax fabric adds bold contrast and cultural richness, making each piece expressive, modern, and rooted in history.
Symbolic, balanced design
The Ahosi silhouette features a rounded body topped with a smaller circle, forming a soft yet structured shape that evokes a stylized human figure. At the heart of the main circle, a half-moon cutout reveals a wax print insert, with bold colours ranging from electric blue to deep black and crisp white — depending on the fabric fragment used.
No two pairs are exactly alike, as the patterns vary with each production batch. This makes every Ahosi earring a limited-edition statement, reflecting the collection’s commitment to low-waste design and textile reuse.
Handcrafted in Montréal, with purpose and care
Like all ReNée pieces, the blue Ahosi earrings are handmade in our Montréal studio, using reclaimed leather and leftover wax fabric from previous accessory collections. This approach allows us to minimize waste while honouring each material for its creative potential.
They are mounted on hypoallergenic stainless steel posts, ideal for sensitive ears. The earrings are light, durable, and comfortable to wear all day.
