In Fon, a language spoken in Benin, NaN means women of the king. It was a title given to the queens and influential women of the Abomey royal court — discreet but powerful figures who shaped authority from behind the scenes. The NaN model honours this grounded feminine strength, one that radiates dignity without needing to be loud.

Part of the ReNée Collection, NaN celebrates material transformation, cultural memory, and refined design. This black version — made from recycled leather and black-and-white polka dot wax fabric — is available in limited quantities, handcrafted in Montréal.

A clean, structured silhouette

The NaN earring features a sharp square base — a symbol of strength and structure — topped with a small rounded form that evokes a stylized head or a point of balance. Together, they form a totem-like silhouette, modern and grounded.

At the centre, a cut-out square reveals black wax fabric dotted with white, creating a striking contrast between the matt black leather and the rhythmic pattern of the textile. This visual tension brings subtle dynamism to the minimalist shape.

The wax insert is made from reclaimed fabric offcuts, part of our low-waste production cycle — giving new life to every scrap of material.

Local, handcrafted, and sustainably made

The NaN Black earrings are handcrafted in our Montréal studio, using upcycled black leather and repurposed wax fabric. This small-scale production model ensures close attention to quality while respecting the environment.

Each earring is mounted on a hypoallergenic stainless steel post, perfect for sensitive ears. The leather is lightweight, soft, and durable, offering comfortable wear from morning to evening.
