In Fon, a language spoken in Benin, “Ahosi” means women of the king. This was the title given to the legendary female warriors of the Dahomey Kingdom — fierce and loyal Amazons who commanded respect through courage and strategy. The Ahosi earrings are inspired by these powerful women and designed as a modern-day talisman — an accessory that symbolizes calm strength and timeless dignity.
In this version, the rich black recycled leather is paired with a bold black-and-white polka dot wax fabric, creating a clean, graphic contrast. Handcrafted in Montréal and produced in limited quantities, this piece carries an elegance that speaks softly, yet firmly.
A minimalist and meaningful design
The Ahosi shape features a rounded base topped with a small circle, evoking a stylized human figure: grounded, centred, and full of quiet power. In the centre of the main circle, a semi-circle cutout reveals black wax fabric dotted with white — a subtle play of light and rhythm that draws the eye without overwhelming.

Handmade locally with recycled materials
Like every piece in the ReNée Collection, the Ahosi Black earrings are handmade in our Montréal studio. The leather is sourced from upcycled offcuts, and the wax print insert comes from leftover fabric used in our accessory production — allowing us to minimize waste while maximizing creativity.
These earrings are mounted on hypoallergenic stainless steel posts, making them safe for sensitive ears. Their lightweight construction ensures comfortable, all-day wear.
